Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc. is the leading explosives manufacturer in Newfoundland and Labrador. We have been meeting the needs of the mining and construction communities of the province since 1987. As a manufacturer of ANFO and a distributor of Dyno Nobel products, we work with some of the largest names in the drilling and blasting industries. In May of 2009 Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc. commissioned its' newly constructed state of the art Bulk Emulsion explosives manufacturing facility west of Corner Brook. This Emulsion Plant in Corner Brook (NHR) manufactures Dyno Nobel's Titan Series of bulk emulsions. We also have two other emulsion manufacturing plants, one in Voiseys Bay (DNL) and one on Baffin Island (DNBI).
TITAN 1000 G is an unsensitized bulk emulsion matrix specifically formulated to be sensitized during loading at the borehole using Dyno Nobel chemical gassing technology. TITAN 1000 G, Dyno Nobel's high performance, booster sensitive emulsion explosive can be used alone in 65 mm (2-1/2 in) and larger boreholes or in larger boreholes when used in an emulsion/ANFO blend. Chemical gassing can vary the density from 1.10 and 1.30 g/cc. In addition, the percentage of TITAN 1000 G can vary to deliver explosive performance that best matches specific blasting requirements.
This plant provides customers with an uninterrupted supply of the highest quality bulk emulsions explosives available anywhere. All the raw materials that are used to manufacture this product are shipped to the province as non-explosive raw material. Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc. has been manufacturing ANFO products at its' Corner Brook location since 1998. It was then, and remains now, the only ANFO facility in the Province. Raw materials for the plant are picked up from the Dyno Nobel Ltd. ammonium nitrate transfer facility in Quebec City and hauled to the Province where it is transferred to Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc.'s bulk storage silo. The plant operates seasonally from April until December.
The fully mechanized plant can produce 30 tonnes of ANFO in a single shift. In addition to regular ANFO the plant can produce various sub categories of ANFO such as water resistant ANFO and aluminized ANFO. Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc. is a proud member of the Newfoundland Manufacturers Association and the Canadian Manufacturers Association. The "Made Right Here" logo is printed on every bag of ANFO we produce so that consumers know they are supporting the local economy and workforce. One of the services that we offer at Newfoundland Hard-Rok Inc. is bit regrinding, more commonly referred to as bit re-sharpening. Depending on the condition of the used button bit, we will reshape the buttons and remove any excess steel from the body of the bit such that the button is once again exposed. Following re-sharpening the bits are repainted and delivered back to the customer. This service ensures the customer has a ready supply of accurately reshaped bits which will deliver the fastest penetration during drilling.
Another product that we make is custom manufactured bore hole liners. In our liner shop, we have the capability to make any diameter liner at any length required. Our process can custom cut the ends for a tapered liner and include a double heat seal as well as the ability to make slits, or pouches to ease the lowering of the liner into the bore hole. These liners are manufactured from 6 mill polyethylene. Call us for a quote on your own custom bore hole liner requirements.
